Ideas for a Healthy Date Night

Feb 12, 2024

Traditionally, couples associate “date night” with activities like eating a big meal with a rich dessert at a fancy restaurant, going out for cocktails, or taking in a movie, complete with buttered popcorn.

But if you’re trying to clean up your healthy habits with your partner, then you might want be looking for some healthy options for date night that nurture your bodies and your connection.

  1. First, remember that the main point of date night is to spend quality time with your partner. No kids, no work calls, no Zooms. Be fully present for each other, no matter what you’re doing or where.
  2. Make a healthy dinner together, with one of you preparing the entrée and the other a side dish or salad. You can plan and shop together, too.
  3. If you’re not sure where to start with that, take a cooking class together.
  4. Go out to eat but choose a healthy restaurant – actually, nearly every restaurant has healthy options if you’re willing to choose them.
  5. Take a walk together, with or without the dog. Hold hands. Stop somewhere for a cup of coffee. Intimate, low cost, and gently active. If you like, sub a bike ride.
  6. Train together for an upcoming fun run or other competition – even if winning means nothing to you!
  7. Or enrol in a weekly dance class together. These last two ideas will provide weeks worth of dates!
  8. Go to a comedy club. Laughter is seriously good for our health – and laughing with your Significant Other generates good feelings together.
  9. Couples massage.
  10. Yoga for lovers.
  11. Try hiking, water sports or Padel Tennis together. These are Mike and my favourite activities to do together!

By all means, do this regularly – and avoid pressuring yourself or your partner. Pick an option that feels right, given what’s going on in your lives. Rotate a new idea one week, and another one the week after that.

Sometimes you’ll want adventure. Sometimes quiet time. As long as it’s truly together time, you’ll be fine.
